Norway Maple 3 Ways – charred & burnished, natural

Norway Maple 3 Ways - charred & burnished, natural, bleached. Oil/wax finish.

These hollowed vases are all from the same Norway maple log (an invasive species here) cut as part of @shelburnefarms comprehensive forest management plan that balances so many factors: carbon sequestration, overall forest health, habitat, and recreation among them. Most of the log is being turned into bowls in partnership with my classes at @shelburnecraftschool, but the area on either side of the pith on a log this size is too narrow for bowls. Since it was also too pretty to end up as firewood, a series of tall hollowforms seemed in order.
