Designed & Handmade in Burlington vermont
I make things from wood. Slowly. Usually with sharp tools and patience, occasionally with blunt tools and a blow torch, never with anything computer-numerically-controlled. While some pieces are designed with the form first, many of my pieces are primarily about the paricticular piece of wood itself. In those, the form arises as a way of saving an especially interesting section of tree from a spectacularly brief and fiery death staving off our long winters in someone’s woodstove. Even when I use colored resins or other artifice, the intent is for the contrast to highlight the wood’s natural beauty.
