Square Platter with Natural Edge - Spalted Maple

The piece of wood from which this platter was turned (from a maple tree in Burlington’s South End damaged many years ago in a wind storm) features curl figure in the wood, coloration and veining from the spalting process, and insect tracts from the first carpenters to set to work on the downed tree. The central dish is small to allow the wood to speak for itself, but is a perfect size for a votive candle, a set of keys, a decorative stone, or a prized cheese worthy of highlighting (the finish is a food safe botanical tung oil).
