14″ Cherry Serving Bowl

This serving bowl is turned from Vermont black cherry and should easily toss and serve a salad for 4-6. Like most of my bowls, this one was turned twice – once to allow the bowl to dry without cracking, and then again because wood shrinks unevenly with and across the grain. A second turning to final thickness is necessary to end up with a round, rather than oval, bowl. A trace of the light colored sapwood is carefully balanced to show a symmetrical stripe across the outside. The finish is a food-safe pure tung oil from a local Vermont company and uses citrus-based thinner rather than petroleum-derived solvents.
